Inn of the Five Graces Wedding Photographer Santa Fe New Mexico

The Inn of the Five Graces is one of the most distinctive properties in Santa Fe. It is not a large resort or a traditional hotel venue — it is a collection of restored adobe suites along the Old Santa Fe Trail, designed with a density of texture and color that makes every surface worth photographing. Tibetan carpets, hand-carved wooden doors, ironwork, mosaics, hand-painted tiles — the property is layered in a way that gives documentary photography an almost endless number of frames before a single person walks into the shot.

I am Casey Addason, based in Santa Fe, and I have photographed weddings and portrait sessions at the Inn of the Five Graces. Here is what I know about shooting at this property.

Why the Five Graces Photographs Differently

Most Santa Fe wedding venues rely on landscape or architecture at a distance — mountain views, wide courtyards, open sky. The Five Graces is the opposite. The property is intimate and inward-facing, built around small courtyards, narrow passageways, and rooms where every wall has a story. This changes the photography fundamentally. Instead of wide establishing shots that place you in a landscape, the strongest images at the Five Graces are portraits against textured walls, detail shots of hands against mosaics, and candid moments in the courtyard where the light comes through cottonwood branches and hits the adobe at an angle.

The ivy-covered brick walls on the exterior of the compound are exceptional for couple portraits. The green against the warm brick creates a natural color palette that complements virtually any wardrobe choice — and the soft, diffused light in the courtyard spaces means I can shoot portraits throughout the afternoon without fighting harsh direct sun.

Ceremony and Portrait Locations

The Five Graces does not have a single large event space — weddings here are woven through the property. Ceremonies typically happen in one of the courtyards, with the adobe chapel nearby available for smaller groups. The chapel is a particularly strong location for available-light photography: cream-colored stucco walls, a simple wooden cross and bell tower, and the golden hour light that comes across the autumn cottonwoods in the background.

For portraits, I work the property's transitions — the wooden doors, the zaguan-style passageways, the garden walls. The terracotta tones and exposed brick throughout the compound create warm, rich backgrounds that need no additional styling. Couples who wear jewel tones — deep burgundy, forest green, sapphire — photograph exceptionally well against the Five Graces palette.

The property's location on the Old Santa Fe Trail also means Canyon Road is a short walk south, and the Plaza is a few minutes north. For couples who want a multi-location portrait session, the Five Graces anchors a route that can include the gallery district, the Loretto Chapel, and the Cathedral without requiring a car.

Events and Cultural Celebrations

The Five Graces draws a clientele that values craftsmanship and cultural detail. Many of the weddings and events I have photographed at the property incorporate traditions — embroidered textiles, regional ceremonial garments, handcrafted jewelry — that deserve the same documentary attention as the vows and the first dance. My approach is to follow the detail rather than impose a shot list. If a grandmother is adjusting a hand-embroidered shawl in the getting-ready room, that is a photograph. If the couple chose specific cultural elements for the ceremony, I stay close enough to document them without directing the moment.

The property's design sensibility — which draws from Tibetan, Southwestern, and global artisan traditions — also means that the built environment complements a wide range of cultural aesthetics. I have seen Jewish ceremonies, Hindu celebrations, and secular vow exchanges all work naturally within the Five Graces setting because the venue itself is already multicultural in its design vocabulary.

Booking a Five Graces Wedding Photographer

Casey Addason Photography covers both photo and video. Wedding packages at the Inn of the Five Graces start at $3,500 for full-day documentary coverage. Elopement packages begin at $1,500 and work well with the property's intimate scale. Bridal portrait sessions and engagement sessions are also available at the Five Graces starting at $500.

All packages include a private gallery with high-resolution downloads, a print credit, and a personal use license. I know the property's light patterns, the best portrait locations at each time of day, and the courtyard corners that produce exceptional images but are easy to walk past on a venue tour.
