Inn of the Anasazi Wedding Photographer — Santa Fe, New Mexico
Inn of the Anasazi sits one block off the Santa Fe Plaza on Washington Avenue, tucked into the historic district in a building that feels like it has always been there. The property takes its design cues from the ancient Pueblo and Anasazi cultures — hand-carved stone, textured plaster, warm wood, wrought iron, turquoise accents — and the result is an interior atmosphere that is rich without being heavy. It is one of the most refined small hotels in Santa Fe, and for intimate gatherings, it photographs with a quality that larger venues struggle to match.

Why I love shooting here
The Anasazi rewards close attention. The textures in this property — hand-plastered walls, carved wooden beams, woven textiles, stone surfaces — are the kind of details that elevate a photograph from documentation to something you frame. I shoot a lot of detail work here because every surface has character.
The downtown location means portrait options extend well beyond the property itself. A five-minute walk puts you at the Cathedral Basilica, the Plaza, or the narrow side streets of the historic district where light pools between adobe walls in ways that flatter every skin tone. I use the property for getting-ready and ceremony coverage, then step outside for portraits that give the gallery geographic range without requiring a car or a schedule disruption.
The interior spaces at the Anasazi have a consistent warmth — amber, terracotta, deep wood tones — that makes available-light photography look like studio work. The restaurant and lounge areas are dimly lit in a way that is atmospheric, not challenging. It is one of the few hotel properties in Santa Fe where I can shoot every space on property without needing to bring supplemental lighting.

What to expect
Best season: Fall and winter. The warm interior palette of the Anasazi comes alive when the outside air turns cool. Farolito season in December, with the hotel's proximity to Canyon Road and the Plaza, adds a layer of atmosphere that is uniquely Santa Fe.
Ceremony options: This is an intimate venue. It excels for elopements, rehearsal dinners, small receptions, and celebrations under 40. The private dining spaces and lounge areas can be configured for ceremonies, but the strength here is atmosphere and exclusivity, not capacity.
Light and timing: Interior spaces are consistently warm and usable throughout the day. For exterior portraits on the plaza and surrounding streets, late afternoon into golden hour is ideal — the Cathedral catches the last light beautifully, and the narrow streets of the historic district create natural shadow and light patterns that work for portraiture.
Dining integration: The restaurant at the Anasazi is a destination in its own right. Couples who build their celebration around a dinner here — ceremony in a private space, reception at the restaurant — end up with an event that feels curated rather than produced. The food and presentation photograph well.
Coordinate with the hotel early. The Anasazi is a small property, and access to specific spaces for photography requires advance planning. The staff is experienced with events and accommodating with photographers, but do not assume availability of any space on the day of without prior arrangement.

If you are planning a wedding at Inn of the Anasazi and want a photographer who already knows the light, the layout, and the moments that matter, get in touch. I would love to hear what you have in mind.
